Albuquerque, NM - The New Mexico Games is in its final stretch of the 2022 sports lineup. The Games' pickleball tournament is set to take place from Friday August 19th through Sunday August 21st at Manzano Mesa Pickleball Courts.
So far this year, the New Mexico Games has played host to 15 sports that tipped off back in May with the iconic Memorial Day Weekend Basketball Tournament. Currently 2,214 athletes from across New Mexico as well as some from out of state have competed in the 2022 Games through the 15 sports mentioned. Last weekend's competition was armwrestling which gathered over 115 entries and now this weekend is pickleball.
Some might say that these athletes are stuck in a pickle, but many will be serving up some heat in this year's tournament. There are about 260 athletes slated to compete in singles, doubles, & mixed doubles this weekend. The event has grown tremendously and for reference, last year's tournament only saw 145 athletes.
"If you've never seen what pickleball is all about, then I suggest you come check out this exciting tournament!" Says New Mexico Games Executive Director Andres Trujillo.
The City of Albuquerque has one of the most state of the art pickleball facilities at Manzano Mesa and competitors are not just from New Mexico, but have traveled in from out of state to play in this tournament. Tournament play begins on Friday August 19th at 10 am as well as Saturday August 20th and Sunday August 21st at 8 am. The event will run all day, each day and is open to the public.
Pickleball fans and those interested in seeing what pickleball is all about, are invited to come and watch all the action all weekend long which will feature competitive athletes contending for gold, silver, & bronze medals.
All local media are invited to catch exciting pickleball action this weekend beginning Friday August 19th from 10 AM to 5 PM, Saturday August 20th as well as Sunday August 21st from 8 AM through 5 pm (all times mountain). The tournament will take place at Manzano Mesa Pickleball Courts (located at 501 Elizabeth St. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87123).
Only 2 sports remain for the 2022 year including Bowling which begins qualifiers September 1st at Ten Pins & More in Rio Rancho and Archery on October 29th at The Archery Shoppe.
