New Mexico Games 2023 Is Here! Ready to Go for Gold?



Albuquerque, NM (March 29, 2023) - The long running and iconic New Mexico Games is back for an exciting 2023 year of sports. After a successful year in 2022, the New Mexico Games is set to host a variety of sports events for New Mexicans of all ages to compete in.


The New Mexico Games has expanded their partnerships and the footprint of competitions across New Mexico to include partnerships with the Albuquerque Sports Commission, Visit Las Cruces, and Visit Rio Rancho. Of these partnerships the Games with three of those planned to be hosted in Las Cruces, New Mexico this year.


Since 1989 the New Mexico Games have played host to Olympic style sports competitions and with the Games in its 34th year, it’s slated to be bigger and better than before. And this year the New Mexico Games is presented by the City of Albuquerque Parks & Recreation Department.


Opening ceremonies will return to Balloon Fiesta Park Event Center on Tuesday May 9th beginning at 11 AM and all media are invited to attend.


The 2023 year will kick off with the most recognizable basketball tournament in the state as the Memorial Day Weekend Basketball Tournament will tip off on Friday May 26th through Monday May 29th at UNM Johnson Center. Basketball is open to all New Mexicans from 3rd grade to senior divisions. Registration is now open, and teams are encouraged to register early.


The City of Las Cruces will host 3 sports events in the New Mexico Games line-up which will include Judo, Karate, and Cornhole.


Following the basketball tournament, June will feature several exciting events including judo, karate, swimming, track and field, and a highly competitive USTA tennis tournament. Indoor racket sports will be hosted in Las Vegas, NM.


July and August will feature BMX August will be busy with badminton, volleyball, pickleball, and the ever popular cornhole. In September, bowling will begin their state qualifiers in Rio Rancho. The New Mexico Games will conclude in November with archery.

Registration for the 2023 New Mexico Games is now open, and a complete list of sports events can be found on the organization's website at newmexicogames.org. This year is a qualifier year for the national State Games of America competition set to take place in San Diego July 17-21, 2024. Certain competitions are on the list of events at the national competition and medalists in those specific competitions this year will qualify and be able to represent New Mexico in 2024.
